The Vernaza Luis Hospital is the largest medical center of Ecuador, and despite not being state-owned, its doors opens to all who need it.

The story of Luis Vernaza Hospital goes back to the colonial era. It was founded in 1564 and is recognized as one of the oldest in South America. It was built in its current location between 1922 and 1930, and named it in honor of Luis Vernaza who was Director of the Welfare Board from 1920 to 1940.

Here, professionals in various medical and surgical specialties catering to people of all regions of Ecuador. The diversity of our modern equipment for diagnosis and treatment of patients makes us unique in many aspects. We have valuable diagnostic tools such as MRI, CT Scan, echo color Doppler ecocardi and others.

We currently have a total of 883 beds to serve the public.

Emergency room Luis Vernaza is a reference to Guayaquil and to the rest of Ecuador, as in this space conditioning greets everyone who comes to emergencies of any kind. We serve an average of three thousand emergency patients per month, which corresponds to more than 50% of medical emergencies that occur in the town and surrounding areas. This area is open 24 hours a day, all year.

Our hospital is the quality of our medical professionals, nurses, aides, attendants and more. The trust that our patients place in them has meant progress for our institution, shown most clearly in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which was built two years ago with an investment of one million dollars.

The Hospital Luis Vernaza is an authentic teaching center, where doctors work and conduct scientific research. We have been recognized by the National Institution for Organ and Tissue Transplantation (ONTOT) as one of the best hospitals in Ecuador. We are equipped with all that is required to perform kidney transplants, and already we have successfully performed more than 135 kidney transplants in recent years. The first transplant was performed in June 1979, and the Unit for Organ and Tissue Transplantation was created in 2009.

Our hospital and Pensioner runs Sotomayor Clinic for patients who want private or semiprivate rooms for treatment and health care. The revenue obtained from the clinic used to defray the expenses incurred in the general area of ​​the Hospital Luis Vernaza, so we can continue to provide our services to the most needy.
